Sodium salt dispersants are the most widely used in water-based architectural coatings due to their high charge density and rapid viscosity-reduction efficiency.
Mechanism: These operate via strong electrostatic repulsion to keep pigment particles stable and prevent flocculation.
Technical Advantages: They are highly efficient at reducing the viscosity of high-concentration pigment slurries (e.g., calcium carbonate or kaolin).
Best For: Interior flat paints, primers, and putties where cost-performance and production efficiency are the priorities.
Technical Difference: Unlike simple homopolymers, RD-9615 is a hydrophobic modified copolymer.
Problem Solving: It effectively resolves "rub-up" (color difference) and "flooding" issues during tinting, ensuring tight pigment packing for superior opacity and gloss.
Ammonium salts are utilized when specific physical properties of the dried film are required that sodium salts cannot provide:
Water Resistance: As the film dries, ammonia evaporates, reducing the number of hydrophilic groups remaining in the film, which significantly improves early water resistance.
Best For: Exterior coatings, silk/semi-gloss paints, and systems requiring high weatherability and scrub resistance.

High-Efficiency Strategy: Combine RD-9605 or 5040 with HASE thickeners like RT-3633 / 3636.
High-Performance Strategy: Pair RD-9615 with HEUR thickeners like RT-3625.
Spray & High-Build Strategy: Use RD-9605 to ensure viscosity stability under high shear, combined with thixotropic thickeners to prevent sagging on vertical surfaces.
